We've been steadily writing/recording and mixing our fourth record for the past 8 months, at home at Talknumeric and out in Camas,WA at Miracle Lake. A number of titles have been kicked around, but nothing set in stone yet. Hopefully we'll be finishing up in the next couple months which would mean that it still has a chance to come out this coming Fall 2010. We shall see...In the meantime, we have a couple awesome shows coming up! The first is taking place on April 30th at Neumo's in Seattle with the Sleepy Eyes of Death. The following night we'll be playing a live set at KEXP, which you can listen to live at 90.3 fm (if you're in Seattle) and at KEXP.org for everyone else. We'll also be playing our first Portland show since (hmmmm last summer!) at the Doug Fir Lounge, where the hi fi sound system cranks us out. That show is on Sat May 8th...There's also a strong possibility that we'll be doing a West Coast Tour in early June with a fellow duo that we love... ![]() 2.16.10 Thanks to everyone who came out to our show this past Saturday in Seattle at the Cumulus Festival! We're taking another jaunt up north to Bellingham for another show this Friday night. We've been cloistered away working on new music this winter for an upcoming release in 2010. The process is coming along nicely....We're providing the soundtrack to a film at a festival in Bend, Oregon next Sat Dec 12th. This will likely be our only show for awhile as we lock ourselves in the studio to make new music. The film was made by Brian Vernor and is part of the 2009 Cyclocross Film Festival in Bend. Climb the snowy mountain pass and join us in central Oregon. 9.24.09 The road is about to stretch out before us as we take in the beauty of the inner-american west. Our first stop is the lovely state of Montana, followed by Idaho, Utah and Colorado. The TALKDEMONIC MINI TOUR begins today! Check the dates to the right.......> 9.18.09 Our Fall Mini Tour starts a week from today in Missoula, Montana! So if you don't happen to live in Missoula, Boise, Salt Lake CIty, or Denver, you are sadly out of luck. Unless you go online now and purchase yourself a cheap flight to one of these inner US delights. We are also continuing to work on our fourth record and will be playing some songs from it on this tour. Check out a few of the posters on the right under the shows... 9.4.09 Its been a very good week for us, with a solid chunk of studio time out with our very own George Martin, Skyler Norwood and his Miracle Lake Studio in Camas, WA. We're working on TD "IV"!!! Going well thus far... We're also getting ready for a small tour later this month. The dates are to the right...Also, a big thank you to all the nice folks who came out to our show this past Saturday. Hope to see you... ![]() 6.02.09 Holocene is hosting their sixth anniversary show this Saturday night, and we will be headlining! Along for the ride are Explode into Colors, Nurses, and Gulls. We're very excited to be sharing such a widely interesting bill with these awesome fellow Portland bands. Not to mention that its also the sixth anniversary of the first ever Talkdemonic show. We were born around the same time as Holocene, which makes it extra special! The show is free so get there early to get in... ![]() ![]() 5.13.09 Come Monday, we'll be taking our musical ventures to Kevin's hometown of Kennewick, Washington. The show is taking place at a promising new venue called the Red Room. We can't wait..buy your tickets ahead of time and they'll be cheaper!! 1.8.09 Massive flooding has shut down the Interstate 5 which is the reason why we won't be playing tonight in Seattle unfortunately. The promoter has promised to bring us back up for a make-up show in the next couple months. Our apologies, and if anyone has a private plane, come pick us up cause thats the only way to get to Seattle right now... 1.5.09 We're playing a show this Thursday night with a couple lke-minded bands in a night of electronic music presented by Sensory Effect at the Nectar Lounge in Seattle. While we were on tour, we stopped in Rock Island, Illinois to record a live session at the Daytrotter studio. We found the Daytrotter folks to be incredibly nice people and today they posted the four songs we recorded as a free download on their wonderful website along with a very intelligently written description of our music. One of the songs is brand new and will likely be on our next album so you can sneak a peek. Click HERE to go to Daytrotter.com! How about those horns... ![]() 11.06.08 Our new video is out! The first video from our new record was directed by the talented Orie Weeks III for the song "Duality of Deathening." As you can see, Lisa and I played dress up and if you look closely you will notice a bunch of little Lisa's and little Kevin's inside the body hard at work, floating on clouds, and waving pitchforks. Orie did an amazing job on this video!!! It has been so long since we updated our website and we apologize. We have been completely wrapped up in the recording/mixing process of our new record. We also played a couple of shows at the end of October with a nice band from Iceland. We're proud to announce that our third record is now completely tracked out and about 60% mixed. Their is around 22 songs to pick from come album slim down time. We spent the past three months recording all the string tracks in a large home in Lake Oswego. Due to its very open nature, as in not really lived in, we captured many natural room sounds and reverbs to add depth to the string parts, which are larger and fuller than ever. Half of the drums were recorded with Skyler Norwood at Miracle Lake, and other half were done at Talknumeric. Most of the instrumentation was also done at Talknumeric. Its impossible for us to aptly express how excited we are about this record, and we are shooting for a late spring release. We are planning on touring the West coast in February as well, where we will be playing many of the new songs. Check back for more information on our third record....Here are some photos in the meantime taken by Jason Quigley... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 9.17.07 Today is a proud day for us, with the first international release of our second album.. YESS!!! ![]() 10.02.05 We have one last show in Eugene,OR this tues with Clap Your hands and the National. Our tour has been completely amazing. Thanks to all who came out, and to everybody who put us up.Thanks to everyone who came out to our sold out return show at Dante's...Check out these neat articles about us by the SEATTLE WEEKLY and WILLAMETTE WEEK ! 09.26.05 Our shows in Chicago and Minneapolis were awesome, great turnouts and good times all around. Minneapolis on sat was possibly our best show of tour. We drove all day sunday and stayed in a creepy hotel in the middle of nebraska. We went swimming in a david lynch-esque pool that had a creepy whirlpool with a tornado in the middle. Today we drove all the way to Denver where I'm sitting in the awesome HI DIVE bar as Lisa and Dustin check out some rocks and nature up in boulder. Also tonite, we are meeting back up with the SWORDS crew which is exciting. Here are a couple pics from our CMJ SHOW at PIANO's on the 16th. When we get home, we will have TOUR EP's for sale at our show at dantes' with clap you hands and the national. See you soon. ![]() 09.22.05 So I can't really remember where we are or what we've done...its all kinda washing out. No actually we are in LOUISVILLE,KY staying in a comfort inn with the national boys. The past four shows have been amazing, we've been witnessing the phenom that is CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH and the awesome delivery and strength of THE NATIONAL. All good people, and good times. The past four nites have been sold out and insane. We played soccer for an hour last nite in Newport, ky at the southgate house. I would like to announce that the national/talkd team kicked the junk out of the cyhsy team. They went down. I can't believe the bartenders allowed it, guess they liked us. Tomorrow we're back in Chicago. NY was insane, two good shows and lots of money spent on $80 drinks. I spotted Steven Seagal on the street on central park south. Our host, the amazing wendy, lived right on central park south. I got to see neat paintings at the met and walk around the great city of ny. We are bringing the love of talkdemonic to the people....a late nite random rant. 09.16.05 Okay, seriously, we are in New York right now staying in trump plaza, just got here after a crazy ass load out from a packed ass PIANO"S on the lower east side. SO our TOUR Diaries. SO I've posted a bunch of random rants which i would call THE TOUR DIARIES... CHECK THEM OUT FROM HERE on down, they are un edited!!!!!!! 09.15.05 Our tour seems to get better by the minute. our show in chicago was awesome, the best sound system and sound man (steve) we've ever come across. even better sounding than the dougfir. hard to believe i know. schuba's was the place. chicago is a huge city. wow....N> MANCHESTER,INDIANA is where its at. a small town in the middle of nowhere with an all ages club called THE FIREHOUSE where all the shows are FREE and the place is run by a teacher named jabin, the raddest dood ever, and a bunch of high school kids. it is basically heaven on earth for them. the ceilings are covered in blankets, couches are everywhere and the kids rule it. it truly was a perfect place....they even hooked us up with hotel rooms. we played with this band from toronto named CREEPING NOBODIES who were spastic like the talking heads, and edgy like the minutemen. super good. the swords and us went out drinking after the show with jabin. free fry nite at the inn. needless to say, we are a little hungouver today on our drive. we are driving through ohio on our way out to new york. hopefully we'll get in tonite. the church van is rocking for us, something we were a bit worried about. i think it helps to have my GIZMO doll leading the way with his big ears on the dash, watching the road for us. 09.12.05 Probably the coolest day of tour yet. A two day straight drive from Moscow to minneapolis. We left at 10am on sunday and got into minneapolis at 7pm on monday. We hardly even stopped, drove through the night to get to the 400 bar on time. Dylan, the nice promoter from moscow called us around 10 last nite to tell us that we had forgotten our cymbal bag and milk crate with all of our cords and my sound card. dood, what amateurs we are! his good buddie bennie has been nice enough to fed ex the cymbals and stuff to new york. thanks man. but last nite was saved by the northern lights, taking up the whole sky, a total religious experience for me. maybe i believe in god again. it was the best display nature has ever thrown my way. on two occasions, the sky just lit up. for 10 to 15 minute periods. wow, it was holy. especially coming from the baptist van......the show at 400 bar was awesome. very mellow and nice, tom was the coolest promoter i've ever met. he told us stories about wynona rider and other rock giants from minneapolis. now we are staying in lizs' mansion of a house. i will write more about the greatness of today tomorrow. oh yeah, we also went to fargo today and bought new cords and some gear. a very underrated place for sure. nice people, and a slammin 5 dollar chinese buffet. werd. analog blog. dustin is the king of buffet, we've found out, he ate five plates of food.....the show went great in minneapolis even with our substitute gear. tomorrow we drive to chicago. 09.11.05 We are travelling on the highway 90 on our way out to minneapolis, a two day 21 hour drive that has been fun so far. Our van chugs atleast a gallon of gas every 11 miles, not a very cost effective way to travel, but we are really comfy. we've made it through two shows so far, moscow idaho was last night. really fun, good crowd, lots of old friends too. swords played first then us, in the land of university free shows. FRI nite was a little tramatic for us since someone ripped off one of our bags that had $500 cash, and all of lisa's stuff in it. The cops called us the next morning before we left and returned the bag with her wallet, sans mullah and no cell phone. It's sad that had to happen to us right before we left, and on our home turf at berbati's. it just takes one butthole i guess. the show was totally awesome though, lots of nice people we met that night. My girlfriend liz has really really bad gas, and its blowing us out of the van. We slept in a munchkin style room last night at our friend luke's house in moscow idaho, where we thought at any minute jon cusack would pop out of the closet talking about jon malkovichs' brain. It was really cold in moscow, kind of a shock for us. We had really yummy coffee and organic stuff at the moscow co-op, and ran into our friend mark and sarah. hey guys. the sky has opened up for us in montana and the trees are swaying gently in the wind as the sun peaks in the side window of our church van. jesus must be smiling as the talkdemonic train heads out east to turn over the youth of america to the dark side of satanism. no, not really okay liz, i was joking. lisa is eating crunchy organic cheetos, which seems like a non-entity to me. dustin, our road dog, is sitting in the front seat staring into space. we are going to drive and drive for two days. maybe i'll write more later, put liz to sleep. 08.20.05 The TALKDEMONIC FALL TOUR 2005 will be high-tailing across the country this september for our first trip out to the east coast. On the way out to New York we will be playing with Arena Rock-mates SWORDS, and we'll be touring back from CMJ with our friends in THE NATIONAL and CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH. Speakers everywhere this fall will rejoice with the arrival of Eyes at Half Mast, the third record from Talkdemonic. The Portland, Oregon duo of Kevin O'Connor and Lisa Molinaro have been playing together since 2003; she plays the viola and cello, while he plays everything else, including, but not limited to: drums, synths, and acoustic instruments. The result is an intoxicating blend of symphonic strings and explosive percussion; achingly beautiful music. Eyes at Half Mast is the band's high water mark. The album teems with moments of spirited beauty, (especially on Duality of Deathening and March Movement) and of haunting elegies (as exemplified by Tides in Their Grave and Dust and Heat). There are passages filled with raw dissonance on the record, such as the release and tension offered by Civilian. There is a sense of loss and memory running through many of these songs, but the tone of the record is ultimately one of hope, a satisfyingly dark vitality that embraces melodic confidence. Talkdemonic continue to expand the range of emotion that they are able to evoke without words. The band is emerging in terms of composition, song structure and recording, and the sound crystallizes here. Talkdemonic hit a stride in songwriting with tunes like Ending the Orange Glow and Black Wood Crimson, which feature complex arrangements, layers and harmonies. It's worth nor mixed thirteen of the fourteen songs from this set. Audiences admire Talkdemonic for their uncompromisingly cathartic and bewitching live sets, as they witness the co-mingling of O'Connor's rhythmic prowess and Molinaro's tempestuous craft. It becomes a welcome contagion, to know Talkdemonic, as they remind us continue to treat music as something of crucial importance and endless amazement. |
